About the Kate Edger Information Commons

The Kate Edger Information Commons|Ururangi building is situated at the heart of the University of Auckland City Campus and is available to all the University of Auckland students and staff. The Kate Edger Information Commons opened its doors at 7am on 28 April 2003.

The highly glazed five-storey building was designed by Architecture Warren and Mahoney (AWAM). Thom Craig, formerly of AWAM, was the design architect and Alec Couchman was the project architect. The building has been lauded as one of the most impressive pieces of architecture within the University of Auckland.

The Kate Edger Information Commons|Ururangi was officially opened on 28 August 2003 by Rt. Honourable Helen Clark, the Prime Minister of New Zealand.

Building Layout

The building covers an area of 6,847 square meters (73,700 square feet) and is divided into five levels, each with a distinct layout and function. Each level can be closed off separately, providing a high level of flexibility.

Level 3 (Map)

  • Student Learning Centre and training facilities
  • 150 multipurpose computers

Level 4 (Map)

  • Library's Learning Services/Information Skills Team
  • 2 computer training rooms (18 computers each)
  • Seminar room (50 seats and moveable wall)
  • Meeting rooms (10 seats)
  • 159 individual study spaces
  • 4 express computers
  • 2 black and white photocopiers
  • 2 scanners

Each level also includes casual seating areas.
