Borrowing portable floppy drives in the Information Commons
Portable floppy disk drives allow you to use floppy disks on computers that do not have a floppy disk drive. To use a portable floppy disk drive, plug it in one of the USB ports on any Information Commons computer.

When saving or retrieving files, the portable floppy disk drive will show up as 3 1/2 Floppy (A:) drive. Please talk to the IC staff if you require assistance in using the portable floppy disk drives.
Students using the Information Commons may borrow a portable floppy disk drive for their personal use for a period of time.
The Kate Edger Information Commons
To borrow a portable floppy disk drive at the Kate Edger Information Commons, go to the IC Helpdesk, Level 2, the Kate Edger Information Commons.
When you wish to borrow a portable floppy disk drive, you must bring your University of Auckland ID card or the item will be issued to you.
Loan periods
You may borrow one portable floppy disc drive for a six-hour period. You can renew the loan online once via Voyager for a further six-hour period. If you still wish to use the portable disc drive at the end of your loan/renewal period, you must return to the IC Helpdesk and the drive will be reissued to you provided there are other drives available at the time. At present, you cannot place recalls on portable floppy disc drives.

Patron blocks and fines
Fines are generated at the rate of 15 cents per minute for an overdue disc drive (maximum fine of $90.00). If you lose the borrowed portable floppy disc drive, replacement cost is $120.00 and there may be additional processing fees. Please note that portable floppy disc drive not returned after 3 days are automatically charged as lost.
Grafton Information Commons
To borrow a portable floppy disc drive at Grafton Information Commons, go to the IC Helpdesk. If you wish to borrow a portable floppy disc drive, you must bring your University of Auckland ID card or the drive will not be issued to you.
